PRESIDENT CLINTON:
Thank you. Thank you, President Chen, Chairmen Ren, Vice President Chi, Vice Minister Wei. We are delighted to be here today with a very large American delegation, including the First Lady and our daughter, who is a student at Stanford, one of the schools with which Beijing University has a relationship. We have six members of the United States Congress; the Secretary of State; Secretary of Commerce; the Secretary of Agriculture; the Chairman of our Council of Economic Advisors; Senator Sasser, our Ambassador; the National Security Advisor and my Chief of Staff, among others. I say that to illustrate the importance that the United States places on our relationship with China.
I would like to begin by congratulating all of you, the students, the faculty, the administrators, on celebrating the centennial year of your university. Gongxi, Beida. (Applause.)
As Im sure all of you know, this campus was once home to Yenching University which was founded by American missionaries. Many of its wonderful buildings were designed by an American architect. Thousands of Americans students and professors have come here to study and teach. We feel a special kinship with you.
I am, however, grateful that this day is different in one important respect from another important occasion 79 years ago. In June of 1919, the first president of Yenching University, John Leighton Stuart, was set to deliver the very first commencement address on these very grounds. At the appointed hour, he appeared, but no students appeared. They were all out leading the May 4th Movement for Chinas political and cultural renewal. When I read this, I hoped that when I walked into the auditorium today, someone would be sitting here. And I thank you for being here, very much. (Applause.)
Over the last 100 years, this university has grown to more than 20,000 students. Your graduates are spread throughout China and around the world. You have built the largest university library in all of Asia. Last year, 20 percent of your graduates went abroad to study, including half of your math and science majors. And in this anniversary year, more than a million people in China, Asia, and beyond have logged on to your web site. At the dawn of a new century, this university is leading China into the future.
I come here today to talk to you, the next generation of Chinas leaders, about the critical importance to your future of building a strong partnership between China and the United States.
The American people deeply admire China for its thousands of years of contributions to culture and religion, to philosophy and the arts, to science and technology. We remember well our strong partnership in World War II. Now we see China at a moment in history when your glorious past is matched by your present sweeping transformation and the even greater promise of your future.
Just three decades ago, China was virtually shut off from the world. Now, China is a member of more than 1,000 international organizations -- enterprises that affect everything from air travel to agricultural development. You have opened your nation to trade and investment on a large scale. Today, 40,000 young Chinese study in the United States, with hundreds of thousands more learning in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America.

Good evening ,Ladies and Gentlemen:
Thank you very much for choosing to come in such a cold y my topic is about choice and process.A research shows that a man has to make 73 choices one so many choices one day, people easily get so confused and afraid of making wrong choice that they hesitate and finally miss the true part of life. In my opinion, the following part is of much more importance than the choice. There is no absolute right or wrong choice but wonderful or boring life, which the process makes the difference.
Life is a box of chocolate, you never know what you will get. Forrest Gump made no decision by and for himself but he accomplished great success with his strong will in the process. The process is not the road itself but the attitudes and feelings ,the caution, courage and persistance we have as we encounter new experience and unexpected obstacles. Take myself as an example, I changed my major when I became a postgraduate. After the choice, days have been harsh for me.I cannot understand the new lessons at all. For they are closely related to mathmatics which I learned nothing about before. However wuth the belief that this is the great chance for me to experience new ideas and challenge myself,I persisted. I asked for help from every channel and reorgonized my life. Gradually I could understand some parts and even found maths over, I learned to act instead of complaining. In retrospect, the choice left no trace in my mind but the happiness and bitterness of the past four months becomes an unforgetable experience in my life.
NO matter what the choice is, enjoy the process. In the process, your potential will be inspired and new discoveries, improvement and progress will come to you. These are the most beautiful sceneries and only on the way can you see e make your life colorful.
There is no need and I donnot want to judge whether it right or wrong for me to be here, but I congratulate to myself for I gain and enjoy this fantastic experience. So my dear friends, never worry about your choice and enjoy the process. I am sure you will get something new and intersting tonight after you chose to come here. Thank you!

What is my favorite invention?
We knew there had been many inventions at the last century, for example, electric light bulb, telephone, phonograph, mimeograph machine, automobile, airplane, atomic weapon, computer and so on. What is my favorite invention?
Personally, my favorite invention should be computer. In the old days, manyscientists took much time to calculate and deal with research data, so theeffective time in doing research was relatively shortened. For millions of timesof calculating per second by computer, the researchers may have enough time tostudy more important issues. The processing of experiment results became verysimple and easy. Aren’t those all evidences that the computer is one of thegreatest inventions in the last century, are those?

Good morning teachers and fellow students. Today we would like to introduce a few favorite books to you.
My favorite book is (Italian: Cuore). This is a diary written by an Italian boy Enrico. The diary is about his life and study. It included various touching stories that happened around Enrico, the mottos taught by his parents, as well as the wonderful ten "monthly" stories told by his teacher during the class. Every word in the chapter describes the word "love". From patriotism to friendship, and to the love between parents and child -- really touching.
This novel taught me how to love, and how to learn from love. I really like this book very much. How about you? What is your favorite book?
My favorite book is . Have you read it before?
Oh, I haven’t read this book before. What is it about?
Well, it is a story of a rich girl who maintained her noble character after the bankruptcy of her father. The story is happy ending.
Can you tell us why you love this book so much?
Sure. It is because the story taught us to be brave and to face the challenges and difficulties with courage. I am deeply impressed by the strength and perseverance of the little princess in the story. I have decided to learn from her from now on.
Oh I see, the story sounds very good. I cannot wait to read this book as well.

Hi, everyone. As we all know, many great inventions have brought greatchanges to our life. I think we students can also invent something.
Today Im glad to be here to talk about what Id like to invent - a chairthats good for students health. It will be made of wood. There will be twosensors in it -- one on the seat, and the other on the back of the chair. Whenthe student doesnt sit straight, the chair will remind him .If he sits on thechair for over one hour ,it will make a noise. It wont stop until the studentstands up and leaves.
It will be a useful invention, wont it ?
Thank you!

good morning, ladies and gentlemen,
last summer, i volunteered(動詞) to work as an english teacher in a primary school for children of migrant workers. to be accurate, i didnt volunteer. i was dragged in literally. when my friends first hit upon the idea of this project. i was all against it. what? to spend my vacation standing in the heat yelling at a bunch of nine-year-olds who couldnt even speak proper mandarin chinese? and besides. theres no pay for my toil. no. i am definitely not going. my friends twisted my arms to have me join them.
unexpectedly, the first lesson i taught turned out a lesson for me. the moment i stepped into the shabby classroom. i was touched by the loud, respectful voices in unison. good morning teacher ! instead of fooling around, the children were thirsty for knowledge and efficient in absorbing everything i was able to give them. this made me despise myself for i hadnt even prepared for the class. during the break. i leaned over the squeaky desk, chatting with a sweaty boy in the front row. "without air-conditioning, its really hot here. are you tired?" not at all. said he. shaking his head. its fine here. my dad builds asphalt roads. that is really tiring and hot.
as summer advanced. my enthusiasm as a teacher grew. i prepared my lesson carefully and even used some methods my teachers used. i organized many group activities to give the kids fun. strangely enough the heat was also becoming less and less unbearable. soon, my one-month volunnteer came to an end. when i was leaving my last class, i turned back and saw smiling faces and waving hands. never before had i ever had such a feeling of sadness. which was, nevertheless, mixed with a sense of enrichment, fulfillment and happiness. i was paid for my work, amply paid, not in terms of money, but something more valuable.
my english was improved, i was able to teach it, although not very professional. i learned about the grassroots-level society. inside myself a heart is growing. a heart that not only beats for myself. but cares for others as well. the volunteer work gave me a precious little chance of saying thanks. to people like the little boys father who construct highways and undergrounds, build up modern skyscrapers, and make our cities more and more beautiful. to help the children with their english was all i could do at present to show my gratitude to these unsung heroes. the world may not have been fair to them. so privileged and blessed people like me make their life better. whatever i do for them, however, i know it cant be compared with what they have done to improve the quality of life in our cities. ladies and gentlemen. now i realize that voluntary shouldnt be just a one-time personal experience. it should be a lifetime activity of everybody. many of us are now offering assistance to the needy and to each other and our efforts have indeed made a difference schooling,---- or caring for the elderly in nursing homes, and helping out in 20xx beijing olympics, will not only contribute to the harmony of the world but elevate ourselves as well. emerson once said, "its one of the most beautiful compensations of this life no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself" he was right. i hear that my university is going to organize another voluntary teaching program this summer. this time i wont be dragged in. i will volunteer. thank you !

Good afternoon everybody.
I’m Alison from GAMI. It’s my honour to standhere to share my understanding of innovation.
About innovation, what comes to your mind firstly ? As for me, mostinnovation shines our lives in the long process of humanhistory. Just imagineten million years ago, what are our ancestors’ lifestyles? They must huntanimals or pick the roots and leaves for food laboriously with simple tools ;They have to roar with each other to communicate in a long distance; Theirtransportation basically rely on walking. In short, their lives are hard, simple, even a little boring. However, taking a look at our lives today! We canorder KFC at home , our food is more easily and diversifiedly to be acquired; wecan get in touch with our friends anywhere at anytime by telephone , E-mailandWeChat! Our vehicles include buses ,cars, planes and so on, it becames soeasy to reach the destination. So how did these happen? Those changes are allowing to the countless innovation. It makes our lives become more convenient, comfortable and colorful.
But in today’s modern life , don’t we need to innovate? No no, let’s have alook at the problems we are facing: air pollution, traffic jam, waste ofresources. Those are related to our survival. Maybe we can make a huge machineto filter the polluted , or invent a car which not only can drive along theroad, but also can fly in the sky; or one day we synthesis super energymaterials, we would never relay on traditional resources any more. Are thoseideas too exaggerated? Who knows? Just as hundreds years ago, nobody can imaginewe can fly by plane. Time will tell you the truth .As Edward, a famouspsychologists, said: Without innovation, there would be no progress, and wewould be forever repeating the same patterns. Therefore, innovation is aneternal topic for people, countries and societies! That’s all, thank u !

Honorable judges, dear boys and girls, good afternoon!
It is my honour to have the opportunity to deliever a speech here.Today my topic is that”No imagination no invention. As we know, imagination is the power of invention, many inventions just begin with the sparking of imagination.
There is no doubt that if you could not imagine so many good inventions would not arise. Lenin said: Imagination is extremely valuable qualities.Imagine, if not, the world will be how to, perhaps can only be a gray.Have imagination is the root cause of human stronger than other animals. No imagination of human development and progress will not have any.Einsteins theory of relativity can find because of his childlike imagination. Jobs created Apple, but also from his simply idea and refined imagination.
But, nowadays, people gradually lose their imagination, or the imagination of people have been killed.Under the exam-oriented education, only the standard answer is correct, the deviated answer is wrong. This causes scores become the dominant factor,so student had to give up their imagination, began to rote memorization. To realize Chinas dream and the national rejuvenation, can without imagination?
If people stopped fantasy, then this is a real sign of the decline of humanity. Imagination is the basis for the creation of the invention. With bold Imagination, science was evolving, with rich imagination, before the era of constantly advancing. We should protect childrens imagination and develop their creativity. China may create a dream realized.
