2.3.1 晉升機制
在投行的職業發展道路首先，進入投資銀行的途徑通常有兩種：途徑之一，認識圈子中的人，有他人推薦或者介紹；途徑之二，校園招聘。
從級別上來講，從低到高大致有這些層次：
Analyst（分析員，一般國外名校本科畢業、或者國內名校本科研究生畢業）
Associate（經理，從分析員升任或從國外名校 MBA 招聘）
VP（副總裁，從經理升任）
Director（董事，從 VP 升任）
Managing Director（董事總經理，從 Director 升任）。
上述稱謂不同的銀行有所不同，但本質相通。一般來說，每一級別之間大致相差三年的工作經驗，按資升級。
越往上，人才在不同銀行之間的流動情況越普遍。從功能上來講，投資銀行的人大致分為做客戶關系管理的和做業務實施的。前者一般相對應的級別比較高，通常 VP 和以上為主；后者雖然各級別的人都會做，但是主要工作集中在 Analyst 到 VP 這幾個級別。
進入投資銀行業后，通常情況下，你應負責把你接受的每一個項目及時做好，無論是寫報告、繪制電子表格、談生意、做研發還是制定工作計劃。然后，一旦有機會接觸客戶并參與創造利潤，如果你能為公司談成生意，回報將相當豐厚。如果你已經成為高管（通常為董事，董事總經理及更高層管理人員），你必須要承擔更多的風險。
在這種職位上不能很好地勝任工作的人，就要被迫離職。簡單而言，如果想做到 Director 以上或者做客戶關系管理，即拉業務為主，要么你從底層爬上來，積聚了良好的專業素質、客戶服務經驗以及廣闊的人脈，要么是因為家庭的背景，或者行業的長期經驗和人脈。其它可能性不大。
