          Part A Reading Aloud

          In this part, you are required to watch a video clip and read after the speaker in the video.

          W: Hi, Tom. How was your summer holiday in the states?

          M: Oh, it was great! Actually, I spent most of my time teaching in a summer school.

          W: Sounds interesting! You must have made some pocket money.

          M: No. I was a volunteer teacher in the school. The school provided me with accommodation and meals but didn’t pay me anything.

          W: Did you like teaching?

          M: Yes. I enjoyed it very much. You know, I taught writing in the school and we used an electronic assignment system.

At midnight, Mary slept into her mom’s bedroom. She quickly put her hand into her mom’s purse, took out some money, put it in a secret place and went back to sleep again. The next morning, Mary woke up in excitement, because she was going to buy herself a doll. But at breakfast, she saw on the table a nice doll dressed in beautiful clothes. “Happy birthday, Mary. This is a doll I made for you,” her mother said to her happily. Knowing her mom had been working on it for two weeks, Mary felt ashamed that she shouldn’t have taken the money. In tears, she told her mom the truth and promised she would not do such a thing again.
