The name Christmas is short for "Christ‘s Mass". A Mass is a kind of Church service. Christmas is a religious(宗教上的') festival(節(jié)日). It is the day we celebrate(慶祝) as the birthday of Jesus.
“圣誕節(jié)”這個名稱是“基督彌撒”的縮寫。彌撒是教會的一種禮拜儀式。耶誕節(jié)是一個宗教節(jié)。我們把它當(dāng)作耶蘇的誕辰?砬熳#?蚨?置???凇?/P>

1.短語short for意思是“……是……的簡略形式”，或“……簡稱為……”，用be short for結(jié)構(gòu)表達。
UN is short for the United Nations.
UN是聯(lián)合國的縮略形式。
Will is short for William.
威爾是威廉的簡稱。
把short for倒過來，for short意思是“簡略地”或“簡化地”，相當(dāng)于副詞。如：
His name is James. We call him Jim for short.
他的名字叫James。我們簡稱他為Jim。
2.短語put away，意思很多，主要有以下用法。
(1)表示“把……收好、放好”，如：
Put away the tools after work, will you?
工作結(jié)束后請把工具收拾好。
(2)表示“儲存”，如：
You should put some money away for your old age.
