Listen to the tape then answer this question.How long did the exam last?
聽(tīng)錄音，然后回答問(wèn)題�？荚嚦掷m(xù)了多長(zhǎng)時(shí)間?
Gary: How was the examination, Richard?
加 里：考試考得怎樣，理查德?
Richard: Not too bad. I think I passed in English and Mathematics. The questions were very easy. How about you, Gary?
理查德：不算太壞，我想我的英語(yǔ)和數(shù)學(xué)及格了。題目很容易。加里，你怎么樣?
Gary: The English and Maths papers weren’t easy enough for me. I hope I haven’t failed.
加 里：英語(yǔ)和數(shù)學(xué)試題對(duì)我來(lái)說(shuō)不很容易。我希望別不及格。
Richard: I think I failed the Intelligence Test. I could answer sixteen of the questions.
They were very easy. But I couldn't answer the rest. They were too difficult for me.

Gary: Intelligence tests are awful, aren’t they?

Notes on the text課文注釋
1 I think I passed in English and Mathematics.我想我的英語(yǔ)和數(shù)學(xué)及格了。如果說(shuō)通過(guò)某一個(gè)考試，直接用動(dòng)詞pass;如果說(shuō)通過(guò)某一科目，則用pass in。
2 the English and Maths papers 英文和數(shù)學(xué)卷子。
paper這個(gè)詞當(dāng)“試卷”講時(shí)，是可數(shù)名詞。
3 How about...?…怎么樣?
用于征求他人意見(jiàn)或詢間情況。
4 easy enough for me，是指對(duì)我來(lái)說(shuō)不難，我可以完成和通過(guò)。而too difficult for me是指對(duì)我來(lái)說(shuō)太難了,無(wú)法完成和通過(guò)。
5 cheer up 振作起來(lái)。

這里指其余的題，注意rest與定冠詞連用的用法。
2.at the top of，在……頂端。
反義詞為 at the bottom of(在……末端)。
3.next to，鄰近，貼近。

too與enough
(1)enough的用法
A 在形容詞之后使用：
He failed the exam because it wasn't easy enough.
他考慮不及格，因?yàn)轭}不夠容易。(不說(shuō) enough easy)
B 在名詞之前使用：
He didn' t buy the car because he didn't have enough money.
他沒(méi)買那部車，因?yàn)樗麤](méi)有足夠的.錢(qián)。
C 可以用在 enough… for sb./sth.和 enough… to do sth.結(jié)構(gòu)之中：
She hasn't got enough money for a holiday.
她沒(méi)有足夠的錢(qián)去度假。
This dress isn't big enough for her.
這件衣服對(duì)她來(lái)說(shuō)不夠大。
She's not old enough to live alone.
她未到獨(dú)自生活的年紀(jì)。
(2)too的用法
A too 表示“過(guò)于”：
I can't go out. It's too hot.
我無(wú)法外出，太熱了。
She couldn't answer the questions because they were too
difficult for her.
她無(wú)法回答問(wèn)題，因?yàn)閷?duì)她來(lái)說(shuō)太難了。
B 可以用在 too…for sb./sth.結(jié)構(gòu)之中：
This skirt is too big for me.
這條裙子對(duì)她來(lái)說(shuō)太大了。
It's too easy for me.
這對(duì)我來(lái)說(shuō)太容易了。
C 可以用在 too…to do sth.結(jié)構(gòu)之中：
The exam was too difficult for him to pass.
考試太難了，以至于他無(wú)法通過(guò)。
The box is too heavy for you to carry.
這個(gè)盒子太沉了，你沒(méi)法扛起。
She i too young to live alone.
她年紀(jì)太小了，無(wú)法獨(dú)自生活。
It's too far to walk home from here.
從這兒步行回家太遠(yuǎn)了。
請(qǐng)比較：
The wall is too high for them to climb over.
這堵墻太高了，他們無(wú)法攀越過(guò)去。
The wall is low enough for them to climb over.
這堵墻矮到如此之程度，以至于他們可以攀越過(guò)去。
詞匯學(xué)習(xí) Word study
1.fail v.
(1)失敗;及格：
Doctors failed to save the old man's life.
醫(yī)生們未能挽救那位老人的生命。
He failed his French paper because it was too difficult.
他的法語(yǔ)考試沒(méi)及格，因?yàn)樵嚲硖y了。
(2)(身體等)衰退;變?nèi)?凋謝：
My eyesight is failing.
我的視力在衰退。
The flowers failed for lack of sunshine.
花因缺少陽(yáng)光而凋謝。
(3)(后接不定式)不，不能;忘記：
I fail to see why you find it so extraordinary.
我不明白為什么你們認(rèn)為它如此與眾不同。
He failed to persuade me.
他沒(méi)能說(shuō)服我。
2.hate v.
(1)討厭;不喜歡;有反感：
He hates exams!
他討厭考試!
I hate beef.
我不喜歡牛肉。
(2)憎恨;憎惡：
He said that he hated hypocrisy.
他說(shuō)他憎惡虛偽。
Tom really hates the murderer in that film.
湯姆十分仇視那部電影中的殺人兇手。
